Areas of Confusion

a Preservation project
︎︎︎ B.Des Diploma Project, 2022

From the outset, the state of Israel declared an obligation to itself - finding suitable and proper housing for its immigrants ("olim").

The construction of public housing materialized the Zionist vision, placing new citizens in buildings that represented not their cultural origins but a new future.
Today, these three-to-four storied apartment structures are vanishing in urban renewal projects.

Looking through the preservation lens, I will question the tension between the desire to conserve and the will to erase. This perspective allows me to examine my own identity as the daughter of immigrants.
